Having trouble with Legacy Launcher? Here are some solutions to common issues.

Unable to install Minecraft Forge?

If you're encountering errors or unable to install Forge, try closing the Minecraft Launcher.

Then, navigate to your Minecraft working directory (usually %appdata%/.minecraft), or open it through the "Profiles" window in the launcher.

Delete the launcher_profiles.json file, then restart the launcher. After that, you should be able to install Forge successfully.

The game/launcher won’t start or has other issues

  1. Check below to see if your issue is already addressed.
  2. Reinstall Java – Uninstall all Java versions, then install the latest version from Adoptium.
  3. Still not working? Share your Game Output and Development Console logs with our support team for assistance.

My antivirus won’t allow installation

  1. Temporarily disable your antivirus (only for installation), and re-enable it afterward.
  2. If a warning appears, click "More info" > "Run anyway".
  3. Your antivirus may scan the file first—let it complete the process before launching.

Does this launcher include OptiFine?

Legacy Launcher doesn’t include OptiFine, but you can easily install it:

  1. Download the correct version from the official OptiFine website.
  2. Open the file and click Install—a new profile will be created in the launcher.
  3. For Minecraft 1.16+, we recommend Iris + Sodium for better performance (including features like zoom, similar to OptiFine).

What versions of Minecraft does Legacy Launcher support?

Legacy Launcher supports all versions of Minecraft, from the oldest releases to the latest. Whether you want to play classic Minecraft or the newest updates, this launcher has you covered.

Can I use Legacy Launcher with a Minecraft account I already own?

Yes! Legacy Launcher supports Minecraft accounts just like the official launcher. Simply log in with your Microsoft account credentials to start playing.

Is there a way to change my Minecraft skin?

While Legacy Launcher doesn't directly handle skin customization, you can change your skin through your Microsoft account settings. Once updated, the skin will automatically apply to your account in the game.

Is Legacy Launcher compatible with my mods?

Yes! Legacy Launcher supports modding and is fully compatible with popular mods like OptiFine, Forge, and Fabric. Simply install your mods as you would in the official launcher, and they will work seamlessly. For more complex modpacks, you can install and manage them easily too.

VirusTotal or my antivirus flagged Legacy Launcher as a virus!

VirusTotal uses various antivirus engines, but most trusted ones (like Microsoft Defender, Kaspersky, etc.) don’t flag Legacy Launcher. Only a few less reliable antiviruses falsely mark it as a virus, usually flagging any uncommon app.
